Kia Garriques

Kia Garriques is fast becoming known as the best kept secret of fiction writing. The young, eccentric talented fiction writer from London was born in the year of the millennium with her pen poised to create intricate worlds that only she could dream of at an early age.

Having studied writing and English literature at Middlesex university, Kia began writing short stories like most graduates but with a unique influence of manifesting dreams. These dreams which sometimes became nightmares were to become the authorial signature to the inspiration and reasoning behind her work.

From an early age Kia would keep a diary of the visions and animated scenery that her eyes witnessed and every night, write down the events and character images she had seen. Over the years, this diary became known as her ‘Dream Diary’ in which day by day Kia would refer to.

Her first story “The Invisible Alien Watcher” was published by Micro Horror in 2009 and reprinted by Pill Hill Press in 2011, this short story was just an insight to the creativeness Kia was capable of.

As a child Kia feared from storms, just the sound or mention of them would create unpleasant shivers down her spine. Being her worst fear and being a word in which its adjectives described her personality best. Kia began writing under the name Kia Storm. Over the years Kia had short stories such as Locked Up, The Watcher and Fly Away Butterfly published in paperbacks and online.

Whilst writing short stories Kia was also working on a book in which her dream diary was highly consulted, with page after page of sketched drawings of scenery, characters, words and colors, Kia had begun creating and painting a world that would invite and entice fiction lovers worldwide.

Now in 2012 Kia Garriques prepares to enlighten and invite readers into her world which questions why we are here? and what our purpose really is through an exciting chain of events and characters in which children of all ages and adults will enjoy and thrive off.

The woman’s face turned white and her enlarged pupils made her eyes a penetrating shade of black. She slowly backed away from me. “Please . . . don’t. . ,” she said softly. I covered her mouth with a wet cloth until it slowly put her to sleep. Like a long lost lover, she fell unconscious in my arms. I brought her to my car, and closed her eyes as if they were precious gems.

  • Fly Away Butterfly

Fly Away Butterfly (published in Flash Anthology by Static Movement)

“Enchanting,” I whispered. “The most beautiful butterfly I have ever seen.”
I watched it, fascinated with how it fought so hard to break free. It violently flapped its wings, but that was useless. It stuck to the wall like a fly wedged to a trap.
I stood, watching the butterfly struggle, trying to break free from the needle I pinned to its wings. The brave creature refused to give up because it knew what freedom tasted like. It flapped its wings harder, faster. I was convinced that its vicious movements would cause its wings to break and fall.

  • Jayrado, the Selfish Prince

Jayrado, the Selfish Prince (published in Yarns for Our Youth Anthology by Static Movement)

Percalia’s green hair tangled in the wind with its gnarly ends grazing the ground. This didn’t do much to compliment a scratched up face that looks like broken glass. Her long red fingernails cut her cheeks whenever she touched them. She wore a long black gown that hugged her tall slender figure like a movie star. The scariest feature of all was her curly long green eye lashes that covered her eyes. Legend had it that if you stared into them, you would instantly be transformed into a grotesque witch, too. The children backed away from the witch, trying desperately not to meet her stare. Two of them were so frightened by the way her upper lip coiled toward the tip of her nose when she grinned, they soiled their pants as they ran away.

  • Run! Coward Run!

Run! Coward Run! (published by Twisted Dreams Magazine)

Ginger’s head was pounding, she was dripping in sweat. Correction–pouring sweat and covered in blood. The thing had just mounted the corner and was moving in her direction. She panicked and felt her legs trembling. God help her. The thing was moving so fast that she was convinced that she wouldn’t make it out alive. It suddenly stopped halfway in the corridor. Ginger stiffened. She was hiding behind, a rusty, half broken, wooden clothes cupboard. Her heart beat was accelerating at high speed. She knew she had to calm down if she didn’t want him to find her. She imagined that she was playing hopscotch with her friends, although she had never played hopscotch before. Visualization is a powerful tool her drama teacher would tell her. It should have helped to slow her heart rate down a notch. The creature was searching around. It was looking for her. Please, no, don’t look this way!
